Learn to make a Guernsey ponier à cou basket at my home in The Wallops, near the Hampshire-Wiltshire border, with me, Claire Gaudion.
Learning on a one-to-one basis is a great way to learn new skills and immerse yourself in the details and techniques of this heritage basket making.
Making a Guernsey ponier à cou involves working with wood, wire and willow and a selection of hand held tools, and strong hands. That said, it is suitable for beginners or those with willow experience.
This is a two day workshop so that we have time to cover all elements in detail from making the wooden handle and wire frame, through to weaving in the ribs, packing techniques and finishing with splicing the rope strap. The two days do not need to be consecutive, but it is preferable.
All materials and tools will be provided. We will be working indoors in my workshop or outdoors depending on the weather (your choice!).
Refreshments including tea/coffee and delicious light lunches will be complimentary. Feel free to bring your own if preferred or if you have allergies.
Please contact me if you have questions about one-to-one workshops and to arrange convenient dates.
